My abstracts offer the purest look into my current state of mind. I approach my pieces with spontaneity, allowing both the medium and my current mindset to dictate what appears on the canvas surface. Although it is more difficult to do some days than others, I resist the urge to work literally, and sit in the abstract space for as long as I feel the piece needs. Only once I am satisfied do I let the analytical and detail-oriented side of my brain kick in and render in more realistic forms as the piece needs. I strive for a balance between abstracted and realistic forms in my paintings, and heavily rely on color, value, and texture to bring emotion, movement, and energy to my pieces.
